Red Helmets

"Luggage in the lobby at 6a.m.!" The Bridge for Peace team got it done, hoisting bags into vans in the pelting rain. Ominous gray clouds hung over Lake Victoria, lightning streaked across the sky, looked like it would be slow going on the road. B4P first wave team would drive west across Uganda from Entebbe to Kasese. In past visits, the trip took eight hours and it didn't look like we'd break any records today. Africans, Australians, and Americans circled-up for prayer in the lobby before hitting the road. Ed whipped out a stack of red baseball hats and the spiritual equipping for the twenty-days ahead continued. "Remember your helmet of salvation," I called out as we "crowned" each one with a new red hat.
The missionaries took up the chant while team leaders went round the circle positioning caps on heads. We prayed Ephesians 6:17. "And take the helmet of salvation...". We would wear these whenever we moved to and from healing rooms, the platform, the vans, etc. "When we put them on, be reminded God has covered our minds with His protection. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ crucified and through His red blood. Let us remind ourselves daily when we put on our hats that we now have the mind of Christ." (1Corinthians 2:16). Whatever lay ahead, we would guard our thinking so no critical thoughts of self or others could enter and Wisdom, the Holy Spirit, would reign in our minds. An amazing gift from our amazing God.
