Gift
She
carried three eggs to the B4P prayer meeting in Ruasesse, Uganda. Seated on the
outdoor bench, she held the eggs in her lap.
When we greeted each other, she held out her hands and offered her
gift. I was humbled by her present and
it was not easy to receive. She put the eggs into my hands. From my heart I said, "Wasinja,"
expressing my thanks in the local language.
Her eyes sparkled with pleasure.
She laughed with delight, covered her mouth with one calloused
hand. At the same time she bowed her
head and touched her bright patterned head scarf with the other hand in a shy
gesture. The women sitting at her side elbowed her, jostling her, sharing in
the joy. Traveling back to the base, I
held the precious treasure in my hands and
remembered 2Corinthians 9:15 "Thanks be to God for His indescribable
gift!" God waits for us to receive
the gift of Jesus Christ our Savior.
Thank you feels like an inadequate response, especially for all God has
done for us, but heaven rejoices to hear it spoken from the heart.
