Every mission team names itself and the Rome Team had a breakfast meeting to undertake the task. Cappuccinos and cornettis (Italian breakfast croissants filled with chocolate or vanilla cream or merely glazed with sugar) graced our table as fortification for the job ahead. "Nominations are officially open," I declared. "I know what the name is." Nina smiled with a kind of holy smugness. "What is it?" "The Holy Visitation Team." She presented it with a flourish. Nods around the table, then joy broke out, as we each extended a hand toward the middle in a three way handshake.
The angel visited Mary, Mary visited Elizabeth, an angel visited the shepherds, then a multitude of angels visited the shepherds, the shepherds visited Jesus, Mary and Joseph, and the Magi visited the holy family...our roots spring from a plethora of holy visitations!
We have been welcomed in Rome as bringing a holy visitation, we have welcomed dozens who have brought holy visitations to B4P in our Rome apartment, and last night a priest from Burkina Faso completely arrested my attention as he described B4P as carriers of "The First Announcement."
He said, "Before the written word - before the Gospels - there was a first announcement. Later, these things were written about, but the writing was preceded by the first announcement. The announcement Jesus made to His disciples, the announcement Peter made after Pentecost that turned 3,000 hearts to Jesus Christ, the announcement that our Savior Jesus Christ has come. "This is an announcement with the power of the Holy Spirit and all people need to hear this, the first announcement. You in Bridge for Peace carry this announcement to the world."
I pray worldwide teams of B4P will continually experience a Holy Visitation and visit nations to announce Good News to all people. And I pray with hope that those who hear will experience a Holy Visitation from Jesus, our Bridge for Peace, Who still dwells with us.
